So, your wedding day is soon approaching, and I am sure you are crossing the t’s and dotting the i’s. Well done for ticking off your lengthy list of things to organise. Have you thought about fun posing ideas for your wedding day portraits? Rest assure it is my job to guide you in your wedding day portraits. However, I encourage you to take time to think about some fun ideas for your wedding day portraits (and how to make them unique to you!). Remember they will be a long-lasting memory of just how epic your wedding was.
Wedding portraits reveal all the tremendous effort gone into a wedding. They also show what the bride and groom love best. Every couple’s wedding is a one off. No matter how many times I see similarities, there are never two weddings completely the same. In fact, they don’t even come close. Sure, we can categorize the theme – classic, bohemian, glamorous, minimalist etc but they are always personalized. Brides and grooms have a rare and wonderful opportunity to express themselves on a day that focuses on them.
Hopefully these 5 tips/things to consider for creating wedding day portraits that represent you as a couple will help you to feel prepared. Embrace being dressed gorgeous with florals, a lovely landscape and each other. As the wedding photographer I know what I need to do! The beautiful bridal couple just need to act like I’m not there for the most of it.
Allow anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half for wedding portraits. That way you can adventure around, not feel rushed, and get plenty of unique angles. There may be a special location away from the ceremony that you would like portraits at, so include travel time. Also depending on whether you are doing a first look can shorten or lengthen the time.
Wedding portrait time can be split up multiple times throughout the day too to capture all sorts of natural light. Golden hour sun sets are very popular and understandably so because they are stunning. That’s the advantage of having a photographer present. In between wedding portraits, I take photos of the venue, surrounds, guests, and precious details.
I would say the most important thing to remember is to be yourself and just embrace your personality and your unique love story! You can add “props” like coffee, your pet, a hat, something fun to embrace, your own signature props that represent your love together. They add fun and character!
Also pick locations around your venue that speak to you guys! If you have a connection to your location, landscape, props and surrounds you will feel happy, comfortable, and relaxed. Wedding portraits give bridal couples a bit of breathing space from the full-on excitement of the wedding. Finding a private and peaceful surrounds near the venue for wedding portraits is a lovely moment in time together.
Unique, natural, and authentic wedding portrait poses are surprisingly easy. Allow yourself to be free on the day. Free to move, laugh, and be relaxed! I will be there encouraging you to dance, embrace, pose, and mostly just have fun. My job is to guide you through it all and believe me when it is necessary I will. My style is not stiff positioning but raw, authentic images.
Embrace getting married and becoming husband and wife it is one of the best joys you could feel. Two people in love and celebrating with others that love and support them is the most genuine setting for excellent photography. Nothing has to be faked. Loosen up and enjoy this fabulous moment in history!
It is so important to be unique with your wedding portraits because this day, is your day. Though a million people get married all the time, each couple is so special. You want to make sure that you get the very best, real, and specific photos to your own love story.
I care very much about delivering what you want. Producing quality portraits that speak of the ambience, emotions, actions, and overall beauty of your wedding day. People that couldn’t attend will look at the portraits and see your romantic, unique, one-of-a-kind wedding.
You want your portraits to feel like you and sometimes the best way to do that is by researching other wedding day portraits. By using platforms like Pinterest, google or Instagram, you can find inspiration for ideas you like (and don’t like!). I love how Alyssa & Tyler bought in their unique personality through props & unique locations around their wedding venue (you can browse their photos below).
